Ten Hours Of Trexler 2015
After the success of Trail WhippAss fat ass in March, several of us T.W.A. group members decided that we should invite you to our neck of the woods for a run. Thus, we bring you the Ten Hours of Trexler to be held Saturday June 6th at the beautiful Trexler Nature Preserve in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania. This is a perfect way to celebrate National Trails Day with some crazy friends and meet some new ones as well.
Entry/Registration: There is a $10 fee to cover the usage fee for the park. Any additional money will be donated to T.W.A. You must be registered to run and there will be no day of registration. The field limit will be the first 100 people registered. We will be using bibs to track you and count your laps. Registration will begin at 7:30 AM.
This is a timed 10 hour event. The race will begin at 9 AM sharp and end at 7 PM. You have 10 hours to run as many loops as you can or would like to do around the 8.5 mile Border Trail. Faster runners will take a little over an hour to finish the loop. After you have completed each loop, make sure that your loop has been recorded. We will not be recording the time for each loop. However, we will record your final time, based on when you decide to stop. This will be done to break any mileage ties. It is a running clock, so if you start late, that time is counted against you. Additionally, you have a full 10 hours, so if you want to take a break in the middle and run some more later, you are welcome to. However, the time you are resting counts as well. Only fully completed laps will count and 7 PM is the strict end of the race.
For those of you who know you are only going to come and do one loop, we ask that you start an hour later at 10 AM, to lessen the congestion. If you are unsure whether you want to do one loop or multiple loops, start at 9 AM.

Saturday June 6th from 9 AM to 7 PM. Runners who are only planning on one loop please start at 10 AM
The course will start and end near the bison pen on the Border Trail. It will follow the red blazed Border Trail for approximately 8.5 miles. It will be run in a counterclockwise direction. We will mark any areas that may be difficult to follow. There will be a wide creek crossing that will likely be shin deep, approximately halfway through the loop. Your feet will get wet!
The course has a little of everything. Rolling hills are the biggest part of the course. Most hills are very steep with loose rock, but the trail is wide and not overly technical. The hills are generally steep, but typically quite short as well. You will start near the bison pen, one of the course’s unique features.
Shortly after the bison, there is a small rocky section. This is one of the few technical parts of the course. Following that is a long gradual uphill section of approximately 1 mile in length. This is an open field area, which will bring spectacular views and also some warm June sun. This section is all runnable on one loop, but it may be wise to walk some of it during this long distance event.
Around mile 1.75, the trail continues its rolling nature, but descends more into the woods. Near mile 3.25 are two of the steepest hills on the course. The steepest one typically forces even the strongest runners to hike. The creek crossing is shortly after those two hills, followed by another gradual climb near the Lehigh Valley Zoo.
The second half of the course is still challenging, but does have fewer steep climbs. It goes through an open grassy field section on a gradual climb. Then there is some fun singletrack sections that curve around and over the hills. It is smooth and runnable during this part.
Around mile 6.25, you come to the last long hill on the course, as you climb through the trees on singletrack and then out to a jeep road. The trail then turns back into a fun singletrack off short rolling hills with more views and more exposure to the sun.
You will cross a road with and shortly after be at the Environmental Center. Following this is one more steep hill before a fun downhill to the start/finish area.
The constant up and down of this course makes it challenging on the body for one loop. Running it for 10 hours will be quite difficult and the quads will be hurting. It is wide and smooth trails that are not too technical, so it can be run fairly fast. However, run it too quickly and you will likely blow up. Each 8.5 mile loop contains approximately 1500 of elevation gain and another 1500 feet of elevation loss.
There will be an aid station the course at around the halfway point of each 8.5 mile loop. We will have aid in the start/finish area as well. However, aid may be limited, so plan on bringing your own food and drinks. You will be able to leave your bags near the start/finish line to get anything you need following every 8.5 mile loop.
Please park in the Lehigh Carbon Community College lots K and L. See the directions above for their locations.
There are two portable bathrooms near the start/finish area. Since these are limited, we recommend that you use the restroom before arriving on site to avoid any lines. The Environmental Center has bathrooms as well, but they are a bit of a walk from the trail and parking area.
In accordance with the “leave no trace” policies, please carry all trash with you until you finish the loop. We will have trash cans at the start/finish area.
As stated above, your laps will be recorded and total mileage will be calculated. Your final time that you chose to stop will be recorded. The fastest time for any runners accumulating the same distance will produce the higher finishing results. Results will be emailed to everyone and may be sent to Ultra Signup. There may be some small awards to the top finishers. We haven’t worked that out yet.
